Ewen Ferguson, a three-time winner on the DP World Tour, was present at a press conference organized by the Dubai Sports Council to preview the upcoming season-ending DP World Tour Championship. The press conference, held at the Dubai Sports Council Office, also featured notable figures such as His Excellency Saeed Hareb, the Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, and Tom Phillips, the Director of the Middle East for the DP World Tour.
The DP World Tour Championship is set to take place at the prestigious Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 14-17 and is a highlight of the inaugural DP World Tour Play-Offs. This event has become a key fixture in the golf calendar, attracting top players and fans from around the globe.
During the press conference, His Excellency Saeed Hareb emphasized Dubai's reputation as a premier destination for international golf tournaments. He remarked, “We are pleased that the UAE, and particularly Dubai, has become a preferred global destination for organizing golf tournaments, where elite players gather for some of the largest and most important golf events.” He highlighted the growing interest in the DP World Tour Championship, noting that last year's tournament attracted an impressive 79,000 spectators, marking the highest attendance to date. We have the organizational expertise to host large-scale events, and we are keen to continue collaborating with our partners, including DP World, to foster the growth of this prestigious sport.”
Tom Phillips echoed these sentiments, describing the DP World Tour Championship as a well-established event that consistently delivers entertainment both on and off the course. He added, “As the season-ending event, there’s always a lot at stake, and this year, with the tournament being part of the first-ever DP World Tour Play-Offs, there’s an even greater sense of anticipation.” Phillips mentioned that a superb lineup of players has already confirmed their participation, building excitement for the event.
Ferguson expressed his enthusiasm for competing in the championship, stating, “It’s always a pleasure to play at the DP World Tour Championship and compete against some of the world’s best players. This event is a highlight on my calendar, and I always want to be involved, especially considering the quality of the Earth course, which is one of the best surfaces in the game.” He praised Dubai's exceptional weather and facilities, calling it one of the best places in the world to play golf.
The DP World Tour Championship will feature the top 50 players in the DP World Tour Race to Dubai Rankings, with prominent golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Billy Horschel, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, and Robert MacIntyre confirmed to participate. Ferguson, who secured his first DP World Tour title at the 2022 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, will also be vying for victory in the 16th edition of the championship, further adding to the excitement surrounding this prestigious event.
