Etihad Museum's Research Grant Program Launches New Cultural Exploration Opportunities

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has launched the Etihad Museum Research Grant Programme, designed to promote innovative studies that explore Emirati history, culture, and identity. This initiative invites contributions from the creative and academic communities, aiming to enrich the academic research landscape and develop new content that reflects the UAE's heritage.

The programme aligns with Dubai Culture’s mission to preserve and promote Emirati heritage globally while enhancing the role of museums in facilitating research across various cultural and societal fields. It falls under the broader umbrella of the Etihad Museum Cultural Season.

A highlight of the Research Grant Programme is its focus on the Etihad Museum’s extensive archive, which encompasses historical artifacts and photography collections that chronicle the events leading up to the establishment of the UAE in 1971, particularly between 1968 and 1974. The museum's collection aims to honor the legacy of the founding fathers, showcasing their contributions to the formation of the Union.

The programme is open to Emirati and UAE-based researchers, academics, historians, and creatives, encouraging them to submit proposals that relate to the nation’s history and identity. These proposals will be integrated into the narratives presented at the Etihad Museum, reinforcing its role as a knowledge hub and an essential institution for education, research, and the preservation of local heritage.

Applications will be accepted until December 20, after which a panel of experts will evaluate the proposals based on their relevance to the museum's objectives and scholarly value. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed before grant recipients are announced. Proposals must present original ideas inspired by the UAE’s history and culture and should not have been previously featured in other programmes.

It serves as a vital cultural platform that showcases the UAE's profound history and cultural heritage, which are key pillars of our nation. Our commitment at Dubai Culture is to advance academic research and strengthen the role of museums in supporting the local cultural scene. The Research Grant Programme has the potential to transform Dubai’s museums into knowledge hubs, enabling researchers to delve into the complexities of national identity and local culture while enriching the historical narratives related to the UAE.”

Evaluation criteria for the programme will include the relevance of the research to Emirati identity and alignment with key themes of the Etihad Museum. Proposals will be assessed based on their originality, data collection methods, feasibility regarding timeline and budget, and their ability to engage audiences while activating museum spaces.
