On day two of the second Test match between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, Zimbabwe made 243 in their first innings. Captain Craig Ervine played a brilliant knock of 75 runs, leading his team to a strong total at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Ervine had important partnerships, including a 71-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Raza and a 73-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Williams. Ervine hit two sixes and four fours, while Raza struck six fours and Williams hit eight fours. Williams was unlucky to fall just short of his half-century, as he believed he had nicked a ball from Rashid Khan and walked off.
Ervine's performance was backed by two experienced players, Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams. Raza scored 61, and Williams made 49. In defiance of a tough start where Zimbabwe was at 41-4, these three players helped their team recover and take an 86-run lead.

Raza’s dismissal came when he attempted a paddle-sweep off Zia-ur-Rehman, missed, and the ball hit the stumps. Ervine was the last to fall, caught on the deep backward square leg boundary by Riaz Hassan after playing a sweep shot. Rashid Khan was the best bowler for Afghanistan, taking four wickets for 94 runs.
At the end of day two, Afghanistan was 46-3, trailing Zimbabwe by 40 runs. Rehmat Shah was at the crease with 18 not out, and they were still fighting to get back into the game. Zimbabwe is looking for their first Test victory in three years, having last defeated Afghanistan in 2021.
When Afghanistan began their second innings, Blessing Muzarabani caused early problems, dismissing openers Abdul Malik for 1 and Riaz Hassan for 11. Afghanistan was only on 18 runs at this stage. Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, was then bowled out by a brilliant delivery from Raza, which pitched on middle and hit the off-stump.
Brief Scores: Afghanistan 157 in 44.3 overs (Rashid Khan 25; Newman Nyamhuri 3-42, Sikandar Raza 3-30) and 46-3 in 15 overs (Rahmat Shah 18 not out; Blessing Muzarabani 2-17)
Zimbabwe 243 in 73.3 overs (Craig Ervine 75, Sikandar Raza 61, Sean Williams 49; Rashid Khan 4-94, Yamin Ahmadzai 3-62).
Meanwhile, it was also announced that Ireland will tour Zimbabwe for all formats of cricket from February 6 to 25, with a Test match in Bulawayo and six white-ball games in Harare.
