In a statement following the award, Bin Shafar expressed his pride in this achievement, saying, “We are overjoyed to inscribe our name into the Guinness World Records under a brand-new global benchmark: ‘The Highest Cooling Capacity for a District Cooling System’. With an astonishing total connected capacity of 241,272 Refrigeration Tons (RT), this achievement marks a groundbreaking milestone for Empower on the world stage. It reflects our deep commitment to developing high-value assets that not only deliver environmentally friendly district cooling services to Dubai’s residents but also generate long-term sustainable returns for the company and its stakeholders.”
Bin Shafar further highlighted that this record reinforces Dubai's status as a global leader in environmental preservation and resource sustainability, acknowledging the city’s pioneering role in providing state-of-the-art district cooling solutions.
The Business Bay district cooling project is touted as one of the largest district energy projects in the world, with an ultimate capacity of 451,540 RT. The project features nine district cooling plants, four of which are currently operational. These facilities cater to 188 multi-use buildings and skyscrapers throughout Business Bay, Sheikh Zayed Road, and the Dubai Water Canal via a single distribution pipeline network stretching 52.4 kilometers.
In addition to its extensive capacity, the project incorporates advanced Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technologies and utilizes treated sewage effluent (TSE) for its operations, alongside various other cutting-edge technologies designed to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
