Election Results 2024: Final Tally Revealed Check Party Seats Won

Lok Sabha Election Results: BJP Wins 240 Seats, Congress 99; NDA Secures Majority New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has declared the results for 542 out of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the BJP securing 240 seats and the Congress winning 99. The counting for the Beed constituency in Maharashtra is still awaited, where NCP (Sharad Pawar) candidate Bajrang Manohar Sonwane is leading against BJP's Pankaja Munde.

Although the Lok Sabha has 543 members, counting was conducted for 542 seats as BJP's Surat candidate Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed.

Early on Wednesday, the Election Commission's results indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to form the government for a third consecutive term. Despite facing significant defeats in three Hindi heartland states, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a majority in the Lok Sabha. The BJP, with candidates contesting under Modi's leadership, won 240 seats, which is below the 272 majority mark. This necessitates reliance on allies within the NDA to form the government. This outcome contrasts sharply with the 303 and 282 seats the BJP won in 2019 and 2014 respectively, when it had a clear majority on its own.

The NDA coalition's strength was bolstered by key allies, including N. Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar's JD(U), which won 16 and 12 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, respectively. With the support of these and other alliance partners, the NDA has crossed the halfway mark required to form the government.

The Congress, part of the opposition INDIA bloc, saw a significant improvement, winning 99 seats compared to the 52 it secured in 2019. This gain was particularly noticeable in Rajasthan and Haryana, where it cut into the BJP's vote share.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party boosted the INDIA bloc's morale by winning 37 seats. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), another crucial member of the opposition alliance, won 29 seats in West Bengal, an increase from its 2019 tally of 22. The BJP's presence in West Bengal reduced from 18 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections to 12 seats this time.

The overall results did not deliver the sweeping victory the BJP-led NDA had anticipated, nor what was projected by various exit polls. More than 640 million votes were counted in this extensive democratic exercise, which was conducted in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
