Egypt Seeks Germany's Support for National Interests Within EU

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Atty welcomed Niels Annen, Germany's Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, who is attending the World Urban Forum (WUF) from November 4-8. During their meeting, Abdel Atty highlighted the significant strides made in Egyptian-German relations across political, economic, and cultural domains. He expressed gratitude for Germany's role as a key partner in Egypt’s economic and developmental efforts, particularly through the involvement of German firms in various national projects.

The minister emphasized his desire to deepen cooperation in several critical sectors, including development, energy, renewable energy, and green hydrogen, as well as education and vocational training. He underscored the importance of Germany’s backing for Egypt's interests within the European Union (EU), especially following a recent agreement aimed at elevating EU-Egypt relations to a strategic level. Abdel Atty also referenced the financial support allocated to Egypt by Germany, which is expected to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

The discussion also covered Egypt's efforts to address illegal migration to Europe. Abdel Atty pointed out the necessity of strengthening legal migration pathways for skilled Egyptian workers seeking opportunities in Germany. This approach aims to facilitate the movement of qualified labor while ensuring compliance with legal frameworks.

Furthermore, the two officials explored collaborative opportunities related to developmental projects in Africa. Abdel Atty showcased initiatives spearheaded by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to regional development and stability.

The meeting underscored a mutual interest in enhancing partnerships and leveraging resources to tackle shared challenges while fostering sustainable development in both Egypt and broader African contexts.
