Egypt Refutes Closure of Rafah Crossing with Gaza Border

Egypt reaffirmed on Monday that the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip is operating without interruption, ensuring the continuous flow of aid into the territory. This statement came in response to circulating reports claiming the closure of the crossing. Additionally, a high-ranking Egyptian source, speaking to Cairo News channel, denied any such closure.

The situation escalated further when the Israeli military instructed residents of eastern Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, to evacuate immediately in anticipation of a military operation in the area. This directive raised concerns among Palestinian residents, prompting them to seek safety in other parts of the city.

Despite these developments, authorities in Gaza emphasized that the primary crossing point into the territory remains operational, allowing for the movement of goods and people.

Reports emerged indicating that the Israeli army distributed leaflets in Arabic to Palestinian residents, urging them to vacate their homes and relocate to safer areas within the city to avoid potential harm during the military operation.

The tensions escalated following a rocket attack launched by the military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades, targeting the Kerem Shalom site. This attack resulted in casualties, with three Israeli soldiers killed and twelve others injured.

The conflict between Hamas and Israel dates back to October 7th of the previous year when Hamas initiated a surprise military assault on Israeli towns neighboring the Gaza Strip. The ensuing conflict led to significant loss of life, with approximately 1,200 fatalities reported, along with the abduction of nearly 240 individuals within the sector.

The situation remains volatile, with ongoing military operations and heightened tensions between the parties involved.
