According to a statement from Egypt's Ministry of Environment, Minister Yasmin Fouad has traveled to Cali, Colombia, to represent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi at the high-level segment of the 16th Conference of Parties to the UN Biodiversity Convention (COP 16), which is being held from October 29 to November 1.
The four-day event, themed "A Call for Life," will mark the launch of the Global Alliance for Peace with Nature, aiming to foster collaboration among nations for environmental preservation.

Minister Fouad expressed optimism about the conference, stating, "There is a global anticipation for productive results from the forthcoming COP 16." She emphasized the importance of the event in implementing the global biodiversity framework and the agreements established during COP15.
Key objectives for the conference include the commitment to designate 30 percent of the planet's land and sea as conservation areas by 2030. The conference will also explore available financial mechanisms to support biodiversity efforts and enhance access for developing countries to funding for their conservation initiatives.
Fouad highlighted the significance of linking the three Rio conventions—climate change, desertification, and biodiversity—which Egypt began addressing during its presidency of COP14. This integration is crucial for achieving comprehensive environmental goals.
During COP16, Minister Fouad is scheduled to participate in several ministerial dialogues focused on implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), which aims to halt and reverse the loss of nature. She will also take part in a high-level ministerial announcement concerning the integration of agricultural food sectors within the Kunming-Montreal framework.
Governments attending the conference are expected to review the progress made in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, as detailed on the summit's official website. This review is vital for assessing global efforts to protect biodiversity and address environmental challenges effectively.
