EasyJet Flight Narrowly Avoids Swiss Lake Collision, Probe Reveals

An inquiry has been initiated following an incident where an EasyJet flight descended well below the glide path while approaching Geneva airport from Edinburgh, as reported by Edinburgh News. The Airbus A320 Neo, carrying 157 passengers, came perilously close to crashing into Lake Geneva, reaching just 750 feet above the water's surface, still 7.5 miles from the runway. The event occurred in November of the previous year, and the Swiss Safety Investigation Board (SUST) highlighted that the plane should have been three times higher in its descent.

The Swiss Safety Investigation Service (SESE) reported, "During the approach to runway 22, the aircraft descended significantly below the glideslope, and the flight crew initiated a go-around." Air traffic controllers alerted the pilots, urging an immediate altitude check. Subsequently, the pilots accelerated rapidly and executed a loop over the French commune of Thonoe-les-Bains. Although placed on leave post-incident, they have since resumed duties.

A comprehensive report from Swiss authorities is pending, and the reason for the near-miss remains unspecified. EasyJet assured its full cooperation with the investigation, emphasizing that the safety of passengers and crew is their paramount concern. The airline spokesperson stated, "At no point was the safety of those onboard compromised.
