E-pass Required for Ooty Kodaikanal Visit in TamilNadu

Madras High Court has made it mandatory for visitors planning a trip to Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu to obtain e-passes. This decision, effective from May 7, 2024, to June 30, 2024, aims to regulate tourism and ease traffic congestion, especially during the peak season.

Justices D Bharatha Chakravarthy and N Sathish Kumar, overseeing the exemption for locals, have introduced this measure to address the challenges posed by the influx of tourists in the hill stations. While there is no limit on the issuance of e-passes, residents of the areas are exempt from this regulation.

The initiative comes as a response to the significant traffic congestion experienced on the ghat roads leading to these popular tourist destinations. In a bid to collect data on vehicular movement and manage the flow of tourists, the court has instructed District Collectors to establish an online platform for the issuance of e-passes. These passes will be mandatory for entry, ensuring regulated access and reducing congestion on the strained roadways.
