Dubai's efforts towards sustainable energy were highlighted as the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) convened its 83rd meeting, chaired by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The session, held virtually and attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, focused on reviewing achievements in sustainable energy programs. Notable among these were savings amounting to approximately 9.7 terawatt hours of electricity and 18.8 billion imperial gallons (BIG) of water, equivalent to AED 14.6 billion.
Key attendees included HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, DSCE Secretary-General, and board members like HE Dawood Al Hajri of Dubai Municipality, HE Abdulla bin Kalban of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), and Juan-Pablo Freile of Dubai Petroleum.
The council's discussions centered on semi-annual evaluations of programs aimed at advancing sustainable development through renewable energy initiatives and transitioning towards a green economy. These efforts are aligned with Dubai's Demand Side Management Strategy, targeting a 30% reduction in energy and water usage by 2030, escalating to 50% by 2050 compared to baseline projections. Projects over the past five years have focused on expanding solar energy capacity, curbing water and electricity consumption, enhancing electric vehicle infrastructure, recycling wastewater, and mitigating carbon emissions.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized Dubai's commitment to realizing the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming for 100% clean energy production by 2050. This initiative seeks to bolster Dubai's global standing as a hub for sustainable practices, promoting prosperity and enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi underscored the council's role in implementing robust policies and strategies supporting economic and social development through green energy initiatives, ensuring sustainable energy solutions for future generations.
