As the seventh day of the UAE’s amnesty program for overstayers, launched on September 1, 2024, comes to a close, Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has reported a significant response. The initiative, designed to regularize the status of overstayers, underscores the UAE's commitment to humanitarian efforts, community safety, and enhancing the quality of life.
In the first week alone, the GDRFA received a total of 19,784 applications. Impressively, 98.96% of these applications were processed within 48 hours, highlighting the efficiency of the work teams and the advanced digital services utilized. Notably, 90% of the applications were submitted through digital platforms, reflecting the modern approach of the program.
The Al Aweer settlement center in Dubai experienced a considerable influx of visitors, with 2,393 individuals attending in the first week. This number accounted for 10.15% of the total applications in Dubai. To manage this high volume, 60 service counters were established at the Al Aweer center. Additionally, service requests were facilitated through 86 Amer centers and various digital platforms.

The amnesty initiative has also seen strong cooperation with foreign consulates in Dubai. Joint teams were formed to engage with different communities and assist with the status regularization process in multiple languages. This collaboration has included organizing awareness sessions and providing guidance to help residents understand and benefit from the program.
Major General Salah Al-Qamzi, Assistant Director General for the Follow-up of Violators and Foreigners Sector, expressed pride in the initial outcomes of the campaign. He highlighted the dedication to providing excellent services, ensuring a secure living environment, and achieving rapid progress through cooperation with government bodies, the private sector, consulates, and media.
The GDRFA remains committed to continuing its support for all individuals seeking to rectify their status and aims to enhance community safety through innovative strategies and effective partnerships with external entities.
