The swift response from Dubai Police was instrumental in preventing a potential accident. Traffic patrols reached the vehicle within minutes, with one patrol securing the area and another positioning itself in front to gradually bring the car to a stop. This quick action ensured the driver’s safety and avoided a possible traffic mishap.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs, detailed the response. “The Command and Control Centre reported a vehicle heading towards Abu Dhabi with malfunctioning cruise control. Our patrols immediately proceeded to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and located the vehicle past the Expo Bridge. Given the vehicle’s hazardous situation on a high-speed road, our teams acted promptly to secure the area and guide the vehicle to safety.”
Maj. Gen. Al Mazrouei highlighted the importance of driver safety and composure in such situations. He advised drivers to remain calm, ensure their seatbelt is fastened, activate hazard lights and headlights, and contact emergency services immediately. He recommended shifting the transmission to neutral, turning off and restarting the engine, or applying constant pressure on the brakes if the cruise control malfunction persists. If these steps do not resolve the issue, drivers should gradually release the handbrake while maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel or alternate shifting between neutral and drive to regain control.
The prompt intervention by Dubai Police underscores the effectiveness of the city’s emergency response systems and the importance of following safety protocols during vehicle malfunctions.
