Dubai Police have seized 383 motorcycles and electric scooters due to negligence and non-compliance with riding regulations during the month of Ramadan. The violations encompassed various infractions, such as riding in unauthorized areas, failing to wear protective gear like helmets and reflective vests, lacking required safety equipment such as bright reflective lights and functioning brakes.

In a press statement, Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs, reiterated Dubai Police's commitment to promoting awareness and traffic culture among road users. Their aim is to curb improper behavior, reduce traffic accidents, and minimize human casualties on the roads.

Last October, Dubai Police disclosed that five fatalities and 29 injuries resulted from e-scooter accidents in 2023. Over the span of eight months, the authorities issued more than 10,000 fines to riders for violating traffic regulations.

In Dubai, fines up to Dh300 are imposed on e-scooter riders who jeopardize their safety or that of others. According to police statistics, approximately 1,250 fines were issued monthly last year for improper e-scooter usage, reflecting their widespread popularity as a mode of transportation among residents.

Key traffic safety rules for e-scooter riders include avoiding roads with speeds exceeding 60kmph, adhering to a maximum speed limit of 20kmph in residential areas and beaches, respecting traffic lights and road signs, refraining from carrying an additional passenger, parking only in designated areas, dismounting at pedestrian crossings, and riding in the direction of traffic flow, among others.
