Dubai Municipality has announced the successful completion of a major beautification and greening initiative at the prominent intersection of Airport Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This project, designed to enhance Dubai’s visual appeal and reinforce its status as a premier global tourist destination, introduces a modern and sustainable green space that makes a striking impression on visitors arriving in the Emirate.

The newly created green space, which covers over 360,000 square meters and cost AED 26 million, features a prominent "Welcome to Dubai" sign in both Arabic and English. This landmark not only greets visitors but also offers an attractive city view from above. The design aims to reflect Dubai's commitment to blending urban development with environmental sustainability.

H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that the project aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as the world’s leading city to live in. The initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s broader goal to double the number of green spaces across the Emirate and meet international sustainability standards.

“This project is a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance the city's appeal through landscaping that integrates urban development with environmental care,” said Al Hajri. He added that the Municipality is dedicated to continuing the development of similar projects to increase vegetation cover and contribute to Dubai's unique charm.

The intersection now boasts various decorative elements, including colored gravel and innovative lighting, which together create a distinctive visual experience both day and night. Over 50,000 plants and shrubs have been planted, with a diverse selection of species chosen to enrich the landscape's visual appeal. The inclusion of innovative plant fences and modern irrigation systems ensures the greenery is well-maintained and water-efficient, supporting the project's sustainable goals.

Dubai Municipality’s future plans include additional greening projects to further enhance the city’s distinctive beauty and strengthen its position as a leading global tourist destination.
