Dubai Media Council Seeks Closer Ties with Sony to Boost Creative Media Talent

The Dubai Media Council (DMC) has initiated discussions to deepen its collaboration with SONY Group Corporation, a leading global player in gaming, entertainment, and electronics. This strategic move aims to bolster Dubai's media sector by aligning with global media leaders and enhancing local creative talent through knowledge exchange.

The meeting took place at the Dubai Media Council headquarters and featured prominent figures including Her Excellency Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council; His Excellency Malek Sultan Al Malek, Director General of the Dubai Development Authority and Chairman of TECOM Group; His Excellency Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM); His Excellency Mohammed Al Mulla, CEO of Dubai Media; and Toshimoto Mitomo, Senior Advisor, Executive Deputy President, and Chief Strategy Officer at SONY Group Corporation, among other senior SONY executives.

The primary focus of the discussions was Dubai's dynamic media landscape and the Council's strategies for promoting the growth of new media. Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the strategy aims to enhance local media capabilities to adapt to the rapidly changing media environment. The conversation highlighted the need to develop a highly skilled workforce capable of leveraging modern technologies to produce world-class content.

Her Excellency Nehal Badri emphasized SONY's leadership in electronics, entertainment, and media technologies, noting its global influence. She reaffirmed the Dubai Media Council's dedication to expanding partnerships with top international media enterprises, in line with HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed’s vision to transform Dubai's media landscape. Badri expressed optimism about the potential for collaboration with SONY, particularly in emerging fields such as music production and digital gaming, which are rapidly growing sectors.

The collaboration is expected to provide substantial opportunities for knowledge exchange and training programs, aimed at nurturing Emirati media professionals and equipping them with the skills needed to produce high-quality local content that meets international standards.

The meeting also addressed challenges facing the regional and global media industries, exploring creative solutions to overcome them. Key issues included meeting audience expectations with high-quality content and adapting to the evolving technological landscape.

His Excellency Malek Al Malek praised Dubai's emergence as a major media hub, attributing it to strong partnerships with both regional and international media and technology firms. He expressed enthusiasm about expanding the collaboration with SONY, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing media quality. Al Malek highlighted TECOM Group's ongoing investments in content production and emerging fields like electronic gaming, which hold significant growth potential.

His Excellency Mohammed Al Mulla emphasized Dubai Media's dedication to integrating the latest audiovisual technologies. He noted that advanced technological solutions are vital for delivering superior content and that deepening the partnership with SONY aligns with this objective. Al Mulla expressed eagerness to strengthen the collaboration, given SONY’s role in enhancing media products across various platforms.

Toshimoto Mitomo, from SONY Group Corporation, acknowledged Dubai’s growth as a key media hub and expressed appreciation for the Dubai Media Council's ambitious goals. He highlighted SONY's interest in exploring new collaborative opportunities.

The meeting also included Hesham Al Olama, Director of Strategy and Performance at the Dubai Media Council, and senior SONY representatives such as Kohei Furukawa, Senior Vice President and Board Member; Yuhei Yabe, Head of New Business Development; and Erik Shuntaro, Executive Business Director.
