Dubai Health has announced a strategic partnership between Al Jalila Children’s Hospital and the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., with the aim of significantly enhancing pediatric healthcare services. This collaboration represents a new chapter in the commitment to improving healthcare quality for children through advanced technology, specialized training, and innovative care models.

The announcement follows a series of mutual visits between the two institutions. Recently, Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health, led a delegation to the headquarters of Children’s National Hospital. During this visit, they toured the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation and the Children’s National Research Institute. Both parties engaged in discussions focused on further strengthening their strategic collaboration.

The partnership, which has thrived for over eight years, has concentrated on various aspects such as technological advancements, specialized pediatric training, and enhancing healthcare quality for children. The expanded collaboration will now include critical areas such as developing advanced systems, data management solutions, and increased access to pediatric care through innovative approaches like remote patient monitoring. A notable highlight of this partnership is the launch of comprehensive training programs for healthcare professionals at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital. Beginning next year, selected medical professionals will receive advanced training that integrates best practices and innovative care models from Children’s National Hospital, aiming to elevate the standards of pediatric care in Dubai.

Michelle Riley-Brown, President and CEO of Children's National Hospital, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Together, we are deepening our shared commitment to advancing pediatric healthcare. This collaboration is about more than just exchanging knowledge – it's about building sustainable, innovative solutions that will improve health outcomes for children, both in the UAE and globally. We want to ensure every child receives the highest quality of treatment, no matter where they live.”

Dr. Amer Sharif highlighted the significance of the partnership during his visit, noting, “We are honored to visit the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. The support of our wise leadership in fostering innovation and scientific research is evident both locally and internationally. I extend my deepest gratitude to the government of the UAE for providing us the opportunity to strengthen ties with the most prestigious health and scientific institutions in the world. This has opened new avenues for collaboration and created new opportunities for effective, impactful partnerships.” He emphasized that strengthening the partnership with Children’s National Hospital, a leading institution in pediatric care, underscores their commitment to advancing children's health through an integrated academic health system. Dr. Sharif noted that this collaboration aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, aimed at building an efficient healthcare ecosystem that meets the highest global standards and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leader in healthcare, medical education, and scientific research.

Dr. Mohammed Al Awadhi, Deputy CEO of Al Jalila Children’s Hospital and Latifa Hospital, remarked, “The strengthening of our partnership with Children’s National Hospital will continue our work to elevate the standard of care for children in Dubai and beyond. It will enable us to enhance operational efficiency, particularly in pediatric subspecialties, ensuring the best possible care for every child.” He also indicated that they will collaborate closely with the Children’s National Hospital on leadership training, quality improvement, intensive care practices, and other initiatives to enhance pediatric care efficiency at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital.

The collaboration between the two hospitals has roots dating back to 2018, when Al Jalila Children’s Hospital signed a health information technology agreement with Children's National Hospital. Utilizing its extensive expertise, Children’s National Hospital acted as a strategic advisor, helping Al Jalila Children’s Hospital expand its health IT capabilities to provide the highest quality of care for children. This collaboration was further solidified with an agreement in 2022 that focused on education and consulting services, resulting in specialized training for cardiac ICU nurses and significantly enhancing the clinical capabilities of Al Jalila Children’s Hospital.

Through this strengthened partnership, Dubai Health and Children’s National Hospital aim to set new benchmarks in pediatric healthcare, ensuring that every child receives the best possible treatment and care
