Dubai Courts, Sports Centre sign MoU on dispute awards

Dubai Courts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Sports Arbitration Centre, marking a key step towards strengthening the judicial framework for resolving sports-related disputes in the country.

The agreement underlines Dubai Courts’ commitment to flexibility, integration, and speed in justice delivery while supporting the development of a specialised system for handling sports arbitration. By joining forces, the two institutions aim to reinforce transparency and efficiency in dispute resolution, ultimately bolstering Dubai’s standing as a global judicial hub.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency Prof. Saif Ghanem Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Dubai Courts, and His Excellency Jamal Hamed Al Marri, President of the UAE Sports Arbitration Centre. The cooperation establishes direct channels for enforcing arbitral awards issued by the Centre, ensuring that final decisions and rulings related to sports disputes can be swiftly executed within Dubai Courts’ jurisdiction.

As part of the framework, Dubai Courts will handle enforcement applications submitted by winning parties in line with prevailing legislation and legal procedures. The collaboration also includes joint initiatives such as workshops, coordination meetings, and specialised training to build expertise in sports arbitration and ensure smooth processes for litigants.

The partnership comes at a time when the Centre has built a strong roster of arbitrators with deep experience in both sports and law. By pooling resources and expertise, the agreement is expected to pave the way for a more agile and responsive arbitration system, keeping pace with the growth of the UAE’s sports sector and reinforcing Dubai’s reputation for fairness and speed in justice.
