In response to the unprecedented situation, Dubai International Airport (DXB) has issued a travel advisory, urging people to avoid non-essential visits to the airport due to the disruptions caused by the inclement weather. Flights are experiencing significant delays and diversions, prompting passengers to stay updated on their flight status.

Several airlines, including Emirates Airlines, have announced flight cancellations, with departure procedures suspended at Dubai Airport from 8:00 AM on Wednesday, April 17th, until midnight on April 18th.

For Indian nationals affected by the flooding, the Indian consulate in Dubai has released helpline numbers to provide assistance. The numbers include +971501205172, +971569950590, +971507347676, and +971585754213.

Al Ain, situated on the UAE-Oman border, witnessed record rainfall of 254 mm (10 inches) within 24 hours, marking the highest rainfall since records began in 1949. This unprecedented weather event has disrupted normal life, with videos circulating on social media showing flooded shopping centers in Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates. Footage also captured ankle-deep water at metro stations and workers diligently clearing water from high-end stores like Chanel and Fendi.

In response to the situation, schools in Dubai have been closed, and the government has extended work-from-home arrangements for its employees until Wednesday.

The unexpected deluge has underscored the vulnerability of even the most modern and well-prepared cities to extreme weather events, prompting authorities to take swift measures to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions.
