Drake has won an important court fight in his case against Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick Lamar’s song Not Like Us. The rapper, known for Hotline Bling, took legal action against UMG, saying they tried to ruin his name.

A judge in New York ruled in Drake’s favor, letting his lawyers see important papers from UMG. At a court meeting before the trial, Judge Jeanette Vargas refused UMG’s request to stop Drake’s team from asking for these records. This means Drake’s lawyers can now question UMG’s top people and look at company files.

UMG had earlier asked the court to block this process, saying it would be too much work and take too long. The company said it would need to go through huge amounts of paper and online records, contracts, and messages, which would cost a lot of money and effort.

Drake’s main lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, was happy with the decision. He said that now they could find out what UMG was trying to hide.

Drake first took legal action in January, saying UMG had been harassing him. He claimed that the company spread false stories about him to damage his reputation and make money from the drama.

UMG strongly denied the accusations and tried to have the case thrown out, saying Drake was just upset because he lost his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar.

Drake’s lawyers also said UMG spread lies to boost Kendrick Lamar’s song and increase music streaming numbers. Both UMG and Spotify have said these claims are not true.

With the judge’s latest ruling, Drake’s legal team can now dig deeper into UMG’s business actions and find out if they were truly working against him.
