DP World Partners with Zhejiang Seaport Group to Bolster UAE-China Trade Relations

DP World and Zhejiang Seaport Group have entered a significant partnership aimed at enhancing port logistics and shipping connectivity between Jebel Ali Port in Dubai and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China. This strategic cooperation will focus on attracting shipping companies to establish additional maritime routes between the two ports. It aims to foster cooperation among shipping lines through slot exchanges and vessel space purchases on the Dubai-Ningbo route, thereby improving connectivity and operational efficiency between these major maritime hubs.

An integral part of the partnership involves promoting environmentally sustainable practices. Both entities will collaborate on constructing green and low-carbon ports, sharing information, and exchanging experiences in building green terminals. Initiatives such as shore power utilization and the use of environmentally friendly fuels like LNG and green methanol for refueling green ships will be emphasized.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, highlighting its alignment with DP World's strategy to expand its footprint in China and strengthen trade routes. He emphasized the UAE's commitment to supporting initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative through strategic collaborations.

The collaboration also aims to develop low-carbon port facilities, expand the adoption of new energy sources, encourage the use of clean fuels by ships, and establish a green shipping corridor linking Jebel Ali Port and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in promoting sustainability within the global shipping industry.

Tao ChengBo, Chairman of Zhejiang Seaport Group and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group, underscored the partnership's significance in enhancing China's role in global trade. He emphasized the opportunities it will create for Chinese businesses to access markets across the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa, aligning with China's Belt and Road Initiative objectives.

Furthermore, the partnership will explore investment opportunities in logistics within Jebel Ali Free Zone and Zhejiang Free Trade Zone. It will support automobile logistics leveraging Dubai's transit hub advantages and China's automotive export strengths, particularly enhancing Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) trade between Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and Jebel Ali Port.

This comprehensive collaboration marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the UAE and China, fostering sustainable development practices, and expanding global trade opportunities.
