DP World and Einride have announced a groundbreaking partnership aimed at electrifying inter-terminal container flows at Jebel Ali Port, the 10th busiest port globally. This initiative represents the largest deployment of electric, autonomous freight mobility in the Middle East and is set to revolutionize transport efficiency and sustainability in the region.
Scheduled to commence by the end of 2024, the collaboration will rapidly scale up to support approximately 1,600 container movements daily. This expansion will be facilitated by a fleet of 100 connected electric trucks, managed through Einride Saga, an advanced digital operating system designed to optimize the efficiency of electric and autonomous road freight operations. Additionally, an autonomous pilot is scheduled for deployment in 2025.
Upon reaching full operational capacity, this initiative is expected to annually save up to 14,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and 158 tonnes of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
