In 1619, Guru Hargobind was detained by Mughal Emperor Jahangir at the Gwalior Fort. The Guru, meeting the 52 princes wrongfully detained, resolved to free them. When the Emperor eventually allowed the Guru to leave, he refused to go without the princes. Jahangir reluctantly agreed, permitting only those who could hold onto the Guru’s cloak to leave.
