In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT-AD) and the Zayed National Museum have announced the selection of 10 researchers to receive funding from the Dh1 million Zayed National Museum Research Fund. These recipients were chosen from a pool of 77 applicants representing 19 countries.
Established in 2023, the Research Fund is dedicated to supporting research endeavors focused on the culture and history of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while honoring the legacy of the nation's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The selected researchers hail from diverse backgrounds, including the UAE, Oman, Egypt, India, China, the US, the UK, Australia, and Poland.
The allocation of grants was overseen by a panel of experts comprising representatives from DCT-AD and Zayed National Museum. Projects were assessed based on various criteria, such as research methodology, previous experience, anticipated outcomes, and alignment with the museum's objectives.
The research topics covered by the funded projects encompass a broad spectrum of themes related to the UAE's cultural heritage and historical narratives. These include studies on Sheikh Zayed's societal and cultural influence, the historical connections between India and the Arabian Peninsula, the role of women in Arabian Peninsula trade, oral histories of the UAE, and the deep archaeological heritage of the region.
Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT-AD, underscored the significance of the Research Fund in perpetuating the values of Sheikh Zayed and enriching scholarly discourse on the UAE's traditions. He emphasized the fund's role in fostering international collaboration and promoting a deeper understanding of the country's multifaceted history.
The list of recipients includes esteemed researchers such as Dr. Mohamed Almarri, Maryam Al Shehhi, Dr. Reynold James, Dr. Suhaib Alam, Dr. Ran Zhang, Dr. Seth M.N. Priestman, Professor Lesley Gregoricka, Professor Ali El Keblawy, Sumaya Al-Weheibi, and Dr. Agnieszka Lic.
Each recipient will embark on their respective research projects, contributing valuable insights to the body of knowledge surrounding the UAE's cultural heritage and historical legacy
