DEWA's clean and renewable energy projects have significantly bolstered the UAE's commitment to climate action. Spearheaded by the visionary leadership of the UAE, the country has emerged as a global leader in investing in renewable energy, marking substantial strides in reducing emissions from its energy sector.

According to the Statistical Review of World Energy issued by the UK-based Energy Institute, the UAE ranks among the top countries globally in utilizing solar energy. The report underscores the UAE's position as the 6th highest per capita consumer of solar energy worldwide.

In light of World Environment Day, themed "Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration," HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the UAE's pivotal role in climate action. Al Tayer highlighted the nation's dedication to major projects aimed at bolstering the share of clean and renewable energy sources, thereby enhancing energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and safeguarding the environment and natural resources.

DEWA continues to spearhead groundbreaking initiatives aligned with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These initiatives aim to transition 100% of the energy production capacity to clean energy sources by 2050.

Key among these initiatives is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, touted as the world's largest single-site solar park. With a projected capacity exceeding 5,000MW by 2030, the solar park is poised to significantly contribute to the UAE's clean energy goals. Notably, the park recently set two new records for the tallest concentrated solar power tower and the largest thermal energy storage plant.

DEWA has also embarked on pioneering projects like the green hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and the hydroelectric power plant in Hatta. These projects underscore the UAE's commitment to innovation and sustainability, with a focus on leveraging renewable energy sources.

Additionally, DEWA is leading efforts in water desalination using Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology and promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption through its Green Charger Initiative. These initiatives reflect DEWA's comprehensive approach to sustainability, as evidenced by its annual Sustainability Report, which provides transparent insights into the organization's achievements and efforts in advancing sustainability practices.

Overall, DEWA's initiatives underscore the UAE's steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, positioning the nation as a global leader in climate action and renewable energy adoption.
