The award was received by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of DEWA. This recognition is a testament to DEWA's ongoing leadership in the clean and renewable energy sector, reinforcing its role as a global frontrunner in sustainable energy solutions.
SolarPACES, a collaboration program under the International Energy Agency (IEA), has been operating as a network for stakeholders in the solar Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) industry since 1977. The SolarPACES annual conference serves as a crucial gathering point for industry leaders, researchers, technology providers, and policymakers. This year, the event once again highlighted groundbreaking achievements in solar energy technologies, with the award ceremony celebrating innovations that contribute to advancing global renewable energy initiatives.
In his speech, Al Tayer attributed DEWA’s success to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He emphasized that DEWA’s commitment to adopting the latest clean and renewable energy technologies at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park aligns with the UAE’s Net-Zero 2050 Strategy and Dubai’s Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of sustainable energy sources, and DEWA’s achievements in this regard have already surpassed interim goals ahead of schedule.
The fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which DEWA implemented, is recognized as the world’s largest single-site Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant. With an investment of AED 15.8 billion and a total capacity of 950 MW, this phase utilizes a combination of three hybrid technologies: 100 MW from the Solar Central Tower, 600 MW from Parabolic Troughs, and 250 MW from Solar PV Panels. The solar tower, standing at a remarkable 263.126 meters, holds the Guinness World Record as the tallest solar tower. Additionally, the park has set another world record for the largest thermal energy storage capacity, capable of storing 5,907 megawatt-hours of energy, allowing for round-the-clock solar power generation.
Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA’s ongoing commitment to excellence and leadership is evident in its accomplishments, with the organization consistently ranking among the top global performers across multiple key performance indicators (KPIs). According to an independent study conducted by international consultants, DEWA excels in over 12 KPIs across various sectors, underscoring its commitment to setting the highest standards in energy development.
Reflecting on DEWA’s global standing, Al Tayer affirmed that the authority’s achievements in the solar energy sector are part of a broader strategy to build a sustainable future. He expressed confidence that DEWA’s continued leadership would serve as a global benchmark in the development and application of innovative, world-class standards in renewable energy. With a focus on sustainability, DEWA is not only transforming the energy sector in Dubai and the UAE but also setting a new global standard in clean energy.
