Dubai is actively advancing its role as a pivotal player in shaping the global economy and trade, leveraging enhanced strategies and sustainable investments to fortify its infrastructure and deliver world-class services. At the forefront of these efforts is the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), driving initiatives in energy and water production aimed at promoting resource sustainability and long-term human development.
DEWA's ambitious projects underscore its commitment to positioning Dubai as a global leader in energy production. Emphasizing clean energy solutions, DEWA has initiated strategic green projects and partnerships to advance solar power and water desalination technologies. These efforts align with Dubai's Demand Side Strategy 2030, targeting a 30% reduction in electricity and water consumption through extensive retrofitting and efficiency measures across 30,000 buildings.

Key to DEWA's sustainable energy drive is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognized as the world's largest single-site solar facility. Operating under the independent power producer model, the park currently generates 2,860MW and aims to reach 5,000MW by 2030, significantly reducing carbon emissions by over 6.5 million tonnes annually. DEWA has also made strides in the electric vehicle sector with its Green Charger Initiative, expanding the network of EV charging stations in Dubai to support eco-friendly transportation.
DEWA's commitment extends to water sustainability through the Hassyan desalination project, utilizing solar energy and SWRO technology. This landmark project, set to become the world's largest of its kind with a capacity of 180 MIGD, reflects DEWA's pioneering approach in integrating renewable energy with water production.
Economically, DEWA's initiatives have attracted substantial investments, exceeding AED 43 billion, and fostered partnerships that drive innovation and job creation. Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO), established by DEWA in 2013, has catalyzed the energy efficiency market, retrofitting buildings and creating opportunities in green technologies and services.
In line with its Emiratisation strategy, DEWA prioritizes nurturing local talent across technical and managerial roles, enhancing capabilities and competitiveness in the energy and water sectors. With a workforce of 10,726, DEWA continues to empower Emiratis through training programs and career development initiatives.
DEWA's commitment to research and development is evident through its state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations in solar energy, smart grids, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Research and Development Centre and Innovation Centre serve as hubs for advancing technological innovations and sustainable solutions, reinforcing Dubai's status as a global hub for future energy and water systems.
Through these comprehensive efforts, DEWA not only enhances Dubai's global stature but also drives sustainable development, economic resilience, and technological innovation in the region and beyond.
