The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD) has recently launched the prestigious Third Sector Awards, marking a significant step towards recognizing and celebrating the pivotal role played by third sector entities in fostering sustainable development across the emirate. Aimed at honoring the efforts of not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises, volunteer teams, and corporate social responsibility contributors, these awards seek to inspire and motivate entities to enhance the quality of life for community members through innovative initiatives and impactful programs.
The awards are structured into four distinct domains: Non-Profit Entities, Social Enterprises, Volunteering, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Within the Non-Profit domain, accolades include the titles of Not for Profit Entity of the Year 2024 and Most Impactful Not for Profit Entity. Similarly, the Social Enterprise domain features awards for Social Enterprise of the Year and Most Impactful Social Enterprise. The Volunteer domain highlights the exemplary contributions of volunteer teams through the Volunteer Team of the Year award, while the Corporate Social Responsibility domain acknowledges outstanding CSR initiatives with the CSR Initiative of the Year award.

Mohamed Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, underscored the department's commitment to nurturing the growth of the third sector in Abu Dhabi. As the regulatory body overseeing this vital sector, DCD aims to facilitate its integral role in advancing comprehensive social and economic development within the emirate. Al Balooshi emphasized that the inaugural Third Sector Awards serve as a platform to honor and encourage the contributions of not-for-profit entities, social enterprises, and community leaders, fostering a culture of innovation and social responsibility in Abu Dhabi.
The awards not only celebrate achievements but also highlight the synergistic partnerships between government enablers and third sector entities. Al Balooshi expressed confidence that through collaborative efforts and continued support from its partners, DCD will further develop initiatives that promote growth and sustainability within the sector.
The competition will culminate in an awards ceremony at the end of 2024, where winners across all categories will be recognized for their exceptional contributions. In preparation for the event, DCD plans to conduct workshops aimed at familiarizing potential participants with competition guidelines and eligibility criteria, ensuring clarity and facilitating engagement from licensed institutions across Abu Dhabi.
