Bengaluru: The brutal murder of Neha Hiremath, daughter of a Karnataka corporator, has sparked a heated confrontation between the Congress and the BJP. Neha, a 23-year-old student of Master of Computer Applications, was stabbed seven times by Fayaz Khondunaik, a former classmate, in Hubbali. According to police, Fayaz confessed during interrogation that Neha had rejected his advances, leading to the tragic incident.

The incident has quickly turned into a political battleground, with the ruling Congress attempting to frame it as a personal matter, while the opposition BJP alleges it reflects the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, also a BJP candidate, suggested a potential "love jihad" angle to the case, accusing the Congress of minority appeasement.

Adding fuel to the fire, Neha's father, Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress corporator, echoed the "love jihad" narrative, claiming the accused had plotted to ensnare his daughter. He denounced the attack as a premeditated act against his family.

In response, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi criticized the Congress, alleging a pattern of corruption, criminality, and communal violence under their rule. She emphasized the government's responsibility to uphold moral values and ensure justice.

The Congress countered, asserting that Karnataka boasts exemplary law and order, dismissing BJP's attempts to impose Governor's rule as baseless. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar accused the BJP of political theatrics, insisting that they cannot undermine the state's governance.

Meanwhile, right-wing activists have staged protests outside the Vidyanagar police station in Hubballi, demanding stringent punishment for the Muslim accused. Similar demonstrations have erupted in various locations, reflecting the deep-seated tensions surrounding the case.
