The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the development of Al Jamayel Street, formerly known as Al-Sabkha Street, marking a major milestone in improving Dubai's transportation infrastructure. This project involved the construction of four new bridges, covering a total length of 2,874 meters, with a combined capacity of 17,600 vehicles per hour. Additionally, the development includes over seven kilometers of road work, upgrades to surface intersections along the service road adjacent to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, as well as the installation of advanced road lighting, traffic signals, and systems. Furthermore, the project integrates a comprehensive drainage network for rainwater management and an irrigation system.
HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the importance of Al Jamayel Street as a key connector between two major roads in Dubai—Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. He noted that this development plays a critical role in ensuring smoother traffic flow between these roads, connecting key routes like First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Road. Spanning approximately seven kilometers, Al Jamayel Street is equipped with four lanes in each direction, capable of handling 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

The street serves a significant number of residential and development areas, including Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, Emirates Hills, Dubai Production City, and Jumeirah Golf Estates. The combined population of these areas is estimated to be around 250,000 people.
Al Tayer further explained that the project has greatly reduced travel times for commuters, particularly during peak hours. For instance, travel from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, towards Al Qusais and Deira, is now 40% faster, reducing the commute time from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes. Similarly, travel from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayes Road towards Jebel Ali Port has been shortened by 70%, cutting the time from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes.
The development also included the construction of four key bridges, which were opened in phases to ensure minimal disruption. The first bridge spans 666 meters and accommodates two lanes, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. It facilitates smooth traffic flow by preventing congestion from traffic coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading towards the service road for Jumeirah Golf Estate and Dubai Production City. The second bridge, 601 meters long, also has two lanes and serves eastbound traffic from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, connecting to the northbound routes to Al Qusais and Deira. The third bridge, spanning 664 meters, helps maintain free-flowing traffic and prevents congestion from southbound traffic heading to Al Yalayes Street towards Jebel Ali Port. Finally, the recently completed fourth bridge stretches 943 meters, with two lanes in each direction, supporting up to 8,000 vehicles per hour. This bridge directly links Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, ensuring continued smooth traffic movement between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
The completion of the Al Jamayel Street development is part of the broader strategy by RTA to improve critical transportation corridors across the emirate, which include other important projects like the Al Yalayes Street and Expo Street axes. These developments not only support the increasing traffic demands but also enhance connectivity for future growth in Dubai's residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
This ongoing development aligns with RTA's long-term vision to create an efficient and sustainable transportation network that can accommodate both current and future traffic volumes, ensuring better mobility and accessibility for all residents and visitors in Dubai.
