Coldplay to join FIFA for first-ever World Cup halftime show

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup final will have a halftime show for the first time in history. This special event will happen in New York New Jersey and is being planned with the help of Global Citizen, a group that works for education and social good. Infantino shared this news on Instagram, calling it a big moment for FIFA.

He said that the show will be as grand as the World Cup itself. FIFA is working with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Harvey to choose the singers and performers for the event. Infantino thanked Global Citizen’s CEO, Hugh Evans, and his team for helping organize this big celebration.

FIFA is also planning a huge event at Times Square in New York City for the final weekend of the tournament. Infantino said that FIFA will take over Times Square during both the third-place match and the final. He called these matches thrilling because they will have some of the best footballers in the world. He added that Times Square is the perfect place to celebrate such a big event.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the biggest ever, with 48 teams playing instead of the usual 32. The tournament, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will take place from June 11 to July 19. It will have 104 matches instead of 64, including an extra knockout round.

The final match will happen at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where the NFL teams New York Giants and New York Jets play. The new halftime show is expected to bring even more excitement to the World Cup final and make it an event that football fans will never forget.
