China Urges Israel to Halt Rafah Military Ops Quickly

Post by: Dr. Amrinder Pal Singh

China has issued a call to Israel, urging an immediate halt to its military operations in the Gazan city of Rafah. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated their close monitoring of developments, condemning actions that harm civilians and violate international law. Expressing concern about a potential serious humanitarian disaster, China called on Israel to cease the military operation promptly. The statement emphasized the need for Israel to make every effort to avoid civilian casualties, preventing a worsening crisis in Rafah.

The international community, including China, is increasingly pressuring Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas as the situation escalates in Rafah. Israel's predawn raid in Rafah, freeing hostages and resulting in casualties, adds to the complexities of the conflict. The operation comes after rejecting Hamas's truce terms and amid growing opposition globally.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the operation, while the Palestinian foreign ministry labeled the incident a "massacre" due to the high number of casualties. The rescue mission occurred following a conversation between Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden, who reiterated opposition to a major assault on Rafah. The United Nations has cautioned Israel against a ground offensive into Rafah without a clear plan to protect trapped civilians, who have limited options for escape.

The detailed context highlights the evolving dynamics in the Israel-Hamas conflict, with international actors closely watching and expressing concerns about the humanitarian impact of military operations in Rafah.
