On Tuesday, China’s coast guard said that it carried out “law enforcement patrols” around Taiwan. This happened on the same day that Beijing announced military drills near the island.
According to a statement from Zhu Anqing, who is the spokesperson for the East China Sea Bureau of the China Coast Guard, the coast guard's ships were involved in different activities around Taiwan. They performed drills to check and capture ships, intercept any vessels that did not have permission to be there, and detain ships that were acting suspiciously or illegally.

These patrols and drills are part of China’s ongoing efforts to assert control over the waters surrounding Taiwan.
