During her speech, the 26-year-old singer took the chance to talk about how the music industry treats struggling artists. She said that record companies, which make millions of dollars from artists, need to do more for their workers. She asked for better pay and health care for artists, especially those just starting out. The crowd cheered for her strong words. Chappell said, "If I ever won a Grammy and stood in front of the most powerful people in music, I would ask labels to offer artists a fair wage and health care, especially for new artists."
Chappell shared how hard it was for her when she was dropped by her label and had no job experience. She also talked about the challenges of finding work during the coronavirus pandemic. "It was hard to feel so dedicated to my music, but also feel betrayed by the system," she said.
She then had a strong message for record labels: "Treat artists like important workers." She ended by asking, "We support you, but do you support us?"
Chappell was born as Kayleigh Rose Amstutz on February 19, 1998, in a small town in Missouri. She started singing and playing piano at a young age. In her teens, she posted videos on YouTube, and soon people began to notice her talent. She moved to Los Angeles but had to work as a barista to support herself. Eventually, she became well known for her songs like "Pink Pony Club" and "Naked in Manhattan."
Her first album, *The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess*, was loved by critics and fans. It was called one of the best albums of the year. The album talks about love, pain, and longing. It has fun dance beats and shows off her amazing voice, which one reviewer described as "singing in cursive." Her album was not noticed much at first, but after she performed at big music festivals, more people started listening.
Chappell's style also makes her stand out. She likes to wear makeup and costumes inspired by drag culture, which adds to her unique look. Her songs like "Good Luck, Babe!" and "Hot to Go!" became big hits. "Good Luck, Babe!" even reached the Top 10 on the charts.
Chappell has also spoken out about supporting the Palestinian people. She has talked openly about the mental health struggles that come with fame. Despite the challenges, Chappell Roan keeps rising, inspiring fans with her music, bravery, and desire for change.
