Late actor Chadwick Boseman, who captured hearts worldwide with his memorable performances, will be honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, five years after his untimely passing at the age of 43. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 20 in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that Boseman’s star will be located at 6904 Hollywood Boulevard, commemorating his remarkable contributions to cinema and his enduring cultural impact. “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is deeply honoured to celebrate Chadwick Boseman’s extraordinary legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Boseman’s career was marked by his portrayals of iconic figures in Black American history. He gained widespread acclaim for his breakthrough role as Jackie Robinson, the first Black player in modern Major League Baseball, in the 2013 biographical film 42. He went on to portray James Brown in Get On Up (2014) and Thurgood Marshall, the first Black US Supreme Court Justice, in Marshall (2017). The latter film follows Marshall early in his career as he defends Joseph Spell, a Black man falsely accused of a crime, and Boseman’s performance earned him praise for its intensity and nuance.

Boseman also received critical acclaim for his role as trumpet player Levee Green in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020), an adaptation of August Wilson’s 1982 play. His performance earned him posthumous nominations, including an Academy Award nod, and wins at the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Critics’ Choice Awards, which his wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, accepted on his behalf.

In addition to his historical portrayals, Boseman became a global icon for his role as T’Challa, the superhero Black Panther, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Boseman’s status as a symbol of representation and empowerment.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony will feature tributes from some of Boseman’s closest collaborators, including Ryan Coogler, who directed him in Black Panther, and Viola Davis, his co-star in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Simone Ledward-Boseman is set to accept the honor on behalf of her late husband.

Boseman’s legacy extends beyond the screen, inspiring generations through his commitment to portraying significant Black historical figures and his dedication to philanthropy. His work continues to resonate with audiences, celebrating courage, resilience, and excellence in art.

The posthumous star ensures that Chadwick Boseman’s remarkable contributions to cinema and culture will be remembered and celebrated for decades to come.
