CBI Interrogates Ex-RG Kar Hospital Principal Dr. Ghosh for 3rd Consecutive Day in Kolkata Case

In the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is continuing its interrogation of former RG Kar Medical College Principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh. Dr. Ghosh has been questioned for three consecutive days, with his latest session extending for nearly 13 hours from 10 a.m. Saturday until past midnight.

In response to the tragic incident, the Union Health Ministry has announced the formation of a committee to recommend measures aimed at enhancing the safety of healthcare professionals across the country. This move comes amid growing concerns about the security of medical staff.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) concluded its 24-hour nationwide strike, which began at 6 a.m. on Saturday and ended at 6 a.m. on Sunday. The strike was organized in protest of the brutal rape and murder of the doctor. During the strike, the IMA submitted a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlining five key demands, including improved hospital security, revised shift timings, a thorough investigation into the Kolkata case, and compensation for the victim's family.

The investigation, which was transferred to the CBI from the Kolkata Police by the Calcutta High Court on August 13, has revealed that Sanjay Roy's wife had previously lodged a complaint at Khalighat police station. In connection with the August 14 vandalism incident, several individuals have been identified and arrested, including two workers from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), a group of young men and women, and prominent Left leaders such as Minakshi Mukherjee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).

As the CBI continues to investigate the crime and the subsequent vandalism, the case has prompted nationwide outrage and calls for reforms to ensure the protection of healthcare professionals and justice for the victim.
