In a historic achievement, Jasprit Bumrah secured the top spot in the official world test rankings for pace bowlers, marking the first time an Indian paceman has achieved this milestone. This accolade followed Bumrah's stellar performance in the second test against England in Visakhapatnam, where the 30-year-old showcased his mastery of reverse swing, claiming nine crucial wickets and steering India to a series-levelling victory by 106 runs. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the leapfrogging of Australia's Pat Cummins, South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, and Bumrah's teammate Ravichandran Ashwin in the official rankings.

Previously, India's spinners, including Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Singh Bedi, had dominated the test rankings for bowlers. Bumrah's exceptional contribution earned him the player of the match award in Visakhapatnam, edging out teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored his maiden test double century in the same match.

The left-handed opener, Jaiswal, experienced a notable rise in the test batting rankings, climbing 37 places to 29th. The top spot in the test batting rankings is currently held by New Zealand's Kane Williamson.

Looking ahead, India is gearing up for the third test against England scheduled to commence in Rajkot on February 15.
