Brazil Plane Crashed One Minute After Pilots Noticed Trouble: Probe Reveals

São Paulo: Authorities investigating the tragic plane crash in Brazil, which resulted in the deaths of all 62 passengers and crew members last week, have obtained the full transcript of the aircraft’s black box. However, the transcript has not yet provided a conclusive explanation for the cause of the accident, as reported by local TV station Globo on Wednesday.

The transcript from the cockpit voice recorder indicates that both the pilot and copilot detected a significant loss of altitude approximately one minute before the crash. Globo’s main newscast, Jornal Nacional, reported that the cockpit conversation includes a query from the copilot to the pilot about the situation, as well as a request for "more power" to stabilize the aircraft.

The ATR-72 turboprop, operated by local airline Voepass, was en route from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to São Paulo when it crashed around 1:30 p.m. local time (16:30 GMT) in Vinhedo, approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of São Paulo. The crash resulted in the deaths of everyone on board but did not cause any injuries to people on the ground.

Social media videos posted immediately after the incident showed the ATR-72 aircraft spiraling out of control before crashing into a wooded area near residential homes, followed by a large plume of black smoke.

The Brazilian Air Force reported on Friday that the pilots did not issue any emergency distress calls nor did they report adverse weather conditions prior to the crash.

According to Globo, the analysis of the cockpit audio alone is currently insufficient to determine the precise cause of the crash. The transcript did not reveal any distinct sounds indicative of fire, electrical failure, or engine malfunction, though the audio quality made it challenging to decipher.

While the potential for ice buildup on the aircraft's wings has been suggested by some aviation experts analyzing the crash videos, this issue has neither been confirmed nor ruled out by the authorities.

Brazil's aviation accident investigation center, Cenipa, has yet to provide further comment on the report due to the timing of the request outside regular business hours. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek answers to the circumstances leading to the tragic crash.
