Brazil and China have jointly issued a statement advocating for peace talks to resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to a document seen by Reuters. Signed by Celso Amorim, special advisor to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the statement emphasizes negotiation as the sole viable solution for the "Ukraine crisis."
In their declaration, Brazil and China express support for an international peace conference to be convened at an appropriate time, with equal participation from both Russia and Ukraine, as well as all relevant parties. The document underscores the importance of fair discussions on various peace proposals.

The upcoming summit in June, anticipated to be hosted by Switzerland, is expected to gather participation from numerous countries, with the aim of laying the groundwork for a peace process in Ukraine. Notably, Russia has not been extended an invitation to the summit.
In addition to advocating for peace talks, Brazil and China call for adherence to three principles aimed at de-escalating the conflict: no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of hostilities, and no provocations from any party involved. Furthermore, the use of weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, is strongly condemned. The joint statement stresses the importance of preventing nuclear proliferation and averting any potential nuclear crises through concerted international efforts.
The collaboration between Brazil and China underscores their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. As diplomatic efforts continue to address the Ukraine crisis, the involvement of key global actors such as Brazil and China highlights the significance of multilateral cooperation in resolving complex geopolitical challenges.
