More than 100 Europeans were successfully evacuated from Lebanon on a Belgian military plane on Thursday evening, according to the government in Brussels. This operation primarily assisted nationals from Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.
The aircraft landed at the Melsbroek military base near the Belgian capital, carrying a total of "58 Belgians and their dependents, 41 Dutch citizens, 11 from France, and one from Luxembourg," a foreign ministry spokesman reported on Friday. This evacuation is part of a broader effort to assist the nearly 1,800 Belgians residing in Lebanon; approximately 150 have sought help to return home over the past week.

The evacuation follows an earlier operation in which a first group of Belgians and Dutch nationals left last week on two flights arranged by the Netherlands. Notably, this group included two Belgian journalists who sustained injuries while covering an Israeli bombardment of Beirut during the night of October 2-3.
The Belgian foreign ministry confirmed, "All the Belgians who wanted to leave have been able to do so. We are continuing to assess the situation."
Tensions in the region have escalated significantly since Israeli ground forces invaded Lebanon on September 30. The incursion aims to counter cross-border fire from Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group, following the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, which have since sparked a devastating war in Gaza.
