Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, said, “Dortmund played really well today. We didn’t have our best game. I knew something like this could happen because I know this stadium well. Even though things didn’t go well for us, Dortmund played well. But I am happy because we made it to the semi-finals. I am very happy for the team and the club.”
Dortmund started the match strong, trying to come back from a big 4-0 loss in the first match. Dortmund had two great chances early in the game, and then Guirassy scored a penalty in the 11th minute to give them a 1-0 lead.
Barcelona, who had not lost any games in 2025 before this match, slowly started playing better. They could have scored but missed an important chance in the 40th minute because of bad finishing from Jules Kounde.
In the second half, Dortmund kept pushing hard. Guirassy scored again with a header in the 49th minute, after a corner kick from Ramy Bensebaini. This gave Dortmund hope for a comeback.
However, Dortmund's chance to come back was ruined by an own goal in the 54th minute from Bensebaini, who accidentally kicked the ball into his own net while trying to defend. This made Barcelona feel more relaxed.
In the 64th minute, Lopez of Barcelona missed a chance to score. But in the 76th minute, Guirassy completed his hat-trick, scoring again after a mistake by Barcelona's defense.
Dortmund needed two more goals to force extra time, but they couldn’t score any more, and they started to tire out. Dortmund is also struggling in the Bundesliga and might miss out on Champions League football next season.
Dortmund player, Pascal Gross, said, “We wanted to play better, be braver, and help each other more on the field. We did that today, and it was a much better game. It’s a shame we didn’t play this way in the first match, as we could have gotten something out of it.”
