South Korea has taken a decisive step by announcing the ban of a North Korean propaganda music video extolling Kim Jong-Un's leadership qualities, as reported by the BBC. The video, which has gained significant traction on TikTok since its release in April, is said to violate South Korea's National Security Act, according to regulatory authorities in Seoul.
Named 'Friendly Father', the song is characterized by its upbeat tempo and catchy melody, portraying Kim Jong-Un as a paternal figure and a revered leader akin to his grandfather, Kim Il Sung, North Korea's founding leader. Lyrics such as "Let's sing Kim Jong Un, the great leader/Let's brag about Kim Jong Un, our friendly father" underscore the video's adulatory tone.
Under the National Security Act, South Korea imposes restrictions on content that glorifies or promotes North Korea's regime, aiming to counteract any attempts at propaganda dissemination. Violations of the act can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to seven years, although certain provisions have been recently relaxed.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission, in a statement, labeled the music video as a typical example of psychological warfare against South Korea, emphasizing its unilateral glorification of Kim Jong-Un. The commission announced restrictions on 29 different versions of the video, following a request from the National Intelligence Service of South Korea.
Interestingly, the ban seems to have piqued the curiosity of South Korean citizens, leading to increased viewership of the video following the announcement. Some individuals advocate for its continued availability, citing entertainment value, while others find utility in it for tasks like studying or exercising, appreciating its nostalgic appeal.
