Baby Dies After Being Thrown by Stepfather in West Virginia

A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Jane Lew, West Virginia, where a 27-year-old stepfather, Zachary Williams, admitted to throwing his 17-month-old stepson in frustration. The baby later died from a serious head injury.

The tragic event happened on the morning of May 25 around 9 a.m., in a home located about 100 miles northeast of Charleston. According to police, Williams got angry when the baby kept crying. In a moment of rage, he threw the little boy onto a bed frame and then to the floor. The impact was so strong that the child immediately turned pale and stopped breathing.

Emergency services were called right away. Paramedics tried to revive the child using CPR and rushed him to the hospital. Sadly, he was declared dead about an hour later.

The boy’s mother told police that her son had been fine earlier that morning. She said he had a cold and was more cranky than usual. She added that he had trouble sleeping and wouldn’t take a nap.

Williams told investigators that he went into the baby’s room and tried to calm him by gently bouncing him. However, he admitted that the baby became unresponsive and his body turned stiff. Later, Williams confessed that he had lost control and thrown the baby in anger. He said the baby’s head hit the floor and the bed frame, and he blamed himself entirely for what happened.

Doctors later confirmed that the child had a serious skull fracture at the back of his head. Police said the kind of injury the baby had was caused by a strong blow, confirming the trauma.

Police also spoke to the child’s grandparents. They were asked if drugs or alcohol were used in the house. The baby’s mother admitted she sometimes used Delta 8, a cannabis-like substance, but only when she was not at home. The grandparents, however, said they never believed the baby had been mistreated by either parent.

Williams has now been charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. He is being held in the Central Regional Jail without bail.

This case has left the local community in shock and mourning. It serves as a painful reminder of how dangerous uncontrolled anger can be, especially around young children who rely completely on adults for safety and care.
