In Sydney on Monday, former childcare worker Ashley Paul Griffith pleaded guilty to charges of raping, sexually abusing, and exploiting numerous girls under his care in Australia and Italy. Griffith, 46, has been described as one of Australia's most notorious paedophiles following the public disclosure of the charges against him last year. Initially arrested in 2022 for producing child sexual abuse material, Griffith was later charged with 1,623 offences involving 91 children. Some of these charges were eventually dropped, with the current case involving approximately 60 victims, many of whom were under 12 years old.

The offences occurred between 2003 and 2022 across twelve locations in Australia and in Pisa, Italy. Griffith is currently in custody and is awaiting sentencing, which is expected to take more than two days to allow for the presentation of victim impact statements.
