Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim said he understands the criticism his team is facing after losing 14 times in the Premier League this season. This matches the number of losses they had in the whole 2023-2024 season.

In the game against Newcastle at St. James' Park, United did have some good moments, but Harvey Barnes scored two goals, taking advantage of weak defending, and left United struggling. The loss pushed Amorim’s team down to 14th place in the league with only six games left.

Amorim said, “I understand the criticism, but I don’t care. Nothing is worse than losing games. People can say whatever they want, but I don’t feel the need to defend myself. If you look at the league table, it shows everything.”

The team lost their focus after conceding a second goal early in the second half, and Amorim knows they need to be better in these moments. He added, "We need to improve a lot. Our current position in the table reflects how we have played this season."

This is heading toward being United's worst-ever points total in the Premier League. Amorim made five changes to the starting lineup in the hope of improving things, especially with an important Europa League match against Olympique Lyonnais coming up.

One of the big changes was leaving out first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana, and Altay Bayindir played in his place for the first time in the Premier League. Unfortunately, Bayindir made a mistake that led to Newcastle’s fourth goal.

Amorim said, "Even if we changed the lineup, we don’t know what the result would be. But we had to make choices, and we played just three days ago."

After the loss, Amorim is focused on the next game. "We can’t change what happened in this match. We have to think about the next one. It’s very important for us, so let’s focus on playing better and winning that game."
