Amazon has announced job cuts in its books division, which includes the Goodreads review site and Kindle units. The company said that fewer than 100 workers were affected by this change. The goal of this move is to make the company work more smoothly and to improve how things are done.
A spokesperson from Amazon said that the decision to cut some roles was not easy. They explained that it was part of their plan to make teams and projects run more efficiently and to match the company’s business goals better.
This is not the first time Amazon has reduced jobs in certain areas. Recently, job cuts also happened in other parts of the company, like the devices and services unit, the Wondery podcast division, and among staff in stores and communications.

Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, is working on a plan to cut down on too much management and paperwork inside the company. He wants to make the company less complicated by having fewer managers and simplifying processes.
Even though there have been some job cuts, Amazon also added about 4,000 new jobs during the first three months of this year compared to the end of last year.
On the stock market, Amazon’s shares went up slightly by 0.3% on Thursday. However, overall, the stock price is down by 5.6% since the start of the year.
The news about the job cuts in the books division was first shared by Business Insider.
