Al Ain Zoo has set a Guinness World Record for creating the largest sentence made from palm leaves, which shows the name of the zoo. The certificate for this achievement was given to Ahmed Eisa Al Harasi, Acting Director General of Al Ain Zoo, during a special ceremony at the zoo. The event was attended by the zoo’s management, staff, and representatives from the groups that helped create the artwork.

The artwork earned the Guinness World Record by meeting strict rules, including using eco-friendly methods. This meant the artwork had to protect nature, avoid harming the environment, and not disturb the life cycle of the palm trees. The artwork measured 12 meters long and 1.7 meters high.
To stay true to its focus on protecting nature, Al Ain Zoo decided to make the artwork using only natural materials, mainly palm leaves. Palm trees are very important in the UAE, and they represent both the environment and culture.
Ahmed Eisa Al Harasi, Acting Director General of Al Ain Zoo, said, "We are proud to show Al Ain Zoo's artwork as a symbol of how important the palm tree is for the environment, culture, and society in Al Ain, the city of oases and palms."
He also explained, "The palm leaves used were collected by trimming dry and damaged fronds from the palm trees in Al Ain farms. This is a method called 'takreeb,' which ensures no harm is done to the environment.”
“We chose palm leaves because palm trees are symbols of kindness and giving. Just like the palm tree has helped the city of Al Ain, we hope our efforts in nature conservation will be just as successful,” he added.
Al Ain Zoo thanked everyone who helped create the artwork, especially the people of Al Ain, including farm and palm tree owners, for their help in supporting nature and the environment. The project shows the zoo’s goal to teach people about protecting wildlife and nature.
The ceremony included fun activities like traditional Emirati art performances, demonstrations of palm weaving, carving, and painting, as well as a bright laser and light show.
This artwork is part of the Nature Conservation Festival, held by the zoo from December 9th to 18th, 2024. The artwork will remain on display for people to enjoy after the festival ends.
