Air India Express flight cancellations leave UAE residents stranded

The cancellation of over 70 international and domestic flights by Air India Express has left thousands of passengers, including hundreds of UAE residents, stranded in India. Concerns have escalated within the Ministry of Civil Aviation, prompting close monitoring of the situation as developments unfold.

Entrepreneur Kishor Kumar recounted his experience, revealing how he was scheduled to fly from Kochi to Sharjah at 2:10 am. Despite initially showing as departing on time, delays ensued, and ultimately the flight was cancelled. Passengers, facing urgent commitments, expressed frustration and desperation as they sought alternative means of travel back to the UAE.

Ticket prices of other airlines surged in response to the sudden demand caused by Air India Express's cancellations. For instance, Kishor mentioned a passenger who paid approximately Dh1539 for an urgent ticket, a significant increase compared to the usual fare.

The disruptions were attributed to senior crew members calling in sick, leading to a shortage and subsequent grounding of flights. Passengers were given the option to reschedule or cancel their flights with full refunds. Kishor opted to reschedule his trip for a later date, reflecting on the inconvenience caused to him and his family.

This incident follows similar challenges faced by Vistara on April 1, when pilot shortages led to disruptions in over 100 flights. The actions of senior crew members underscore the operational hurdles confronting the airline industry, drawing attention to the need for effective solutions to ensure seamless operations and passenger satisfaction.
