Dubai’s financial hub is witnessing a rapid acceleration in artificial intelligence adoption, with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) emerging as a key driver of innovation. A recent survey by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) reveals that 52% of financial firms are now actively using AI, a significant jump from 33% just a year ago. Generative AI adoption, in particular, has skyrocketed by 166%, highlighting the sector’s keen interest in harnessing cutting-edge technology.
The survey, conducted in June 2025, gathered insights from 661 authorised firms spanning banking, capital markets, wealth and asset management, and fintech sectors, representing an impressive 88% participation rate. The findings show that most firms have integrated AI in at least one operational area, with further expansion expected over the next 12 months.
While AI is increasingly embedded in internal processes and functions, firms remain cautious about customer-facing applications. This measured approach reflects the sector’s intent to build experience, ensure robust governance, and mitigate risks associated with AI deployment.
The surge in adoption is driven by AI’s strategic potential: enhancing operational efficiency, supporting regulatory compliance, improving risk management, and elevating customer engagement. Yet, firms are mindful that growth must be accompanied by ethical data use and strong oversight frameworks.
The DFSA continues to engage with financial institutions to shape responsible AI practices, emphasizing a risk-based regulatory approach that encourages innovation without compromising market stability. As AI becomes a core component of the DIFC’s financial ecosystem, the balance between rapid technological adoption and robust governance remains central to the sector’s strategy.
