In southeast Turkey, a devastating fire ignited by the burning of crop stubble has claimed the lives of at least five individuals and affected over 40 others due to flames and smoke overnight. The fire, which started in an area near Diyarbakir and Mardin provinces, rapidly spread through the villages of Koksalan, Yazcicegi, and Bagacik, propelled by strong winds. Diyarbakir Governor Ali Ihsan Su confirmed that firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control early Friday morning.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca reported on X social media platform that 44 people required medical treatment as a result of the fire and subsequent smoke inhalation. Among them, ten individuals were in serious condition, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Meanwhile, in northwest Turkey, firefighters were engaged in battling another wildfire near the town of Ayvacik in Canakkale province. Although there were no reported injuries, authorities took precautionary measures by evacuating the village of Camkoy. The fire in Ayvacik was part of a series of wildfires that erupted across Canakkale province amid high temperatures and strong winds over the past week.
The incidents underscore the challenges posed by wildfires during Turkey's scorching summer season, prompting swift responses from emergency services to contain and extinguish the blazes threatening lives and livelihoods across different regions of the country.
